Good Morning KG1 A!

Science (20 minutes)

Exploring Fossils

Beginning: We discussed dinosaurs in class.  Today, we will be making fossils! Fossils help us discover how animals lived in the past.

Middle:  Hunt for plastic animals in the house.  Take the playdoh you made on Sunday.
Divide the playdough into small balls, rolling them out flat.  Imprint the animals into your playdoh.

  • Ask- “I wonder what you see when you press the animals onto the playdoh.”
  •  Ask your child to predict what would happen when the playdoh dries.
  • Acknowledge your child’s work by stating what they are doing
  • Discuss how volcanoes work (we did an experiment in class, ask your child to recall it)
  • Relate to any fossils they may have seen on their trip to a museum

End: Give your child a 5 minutes notice to end the activity.

Ask them to keep the fossils in the sun and return to them the next day to observe if their prediction was correct.

Math: (10 minutes)
Be a explorer- Go around your house and point to 5 of each shape- circles, squares, triangles and rectangles.
Find a paper and pencil and draw out the shapes you can discover!

Fine Motor skills (10 minutes)
Fill half a cup with beans (or rice or corn).  Take another empty cup. Transfer two beans at a time to the empty cup.  Remember to only use your thumb and two fingers.
Challenge yourself by doing the same activity, this time picking up three beans at a time.
